Joanne Shattock

Short Biography

Joanne Shattock is Director of the Victorian Studies Centre and Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Leicester. She is General Editor of The Works of Elizabeth Gaskell (10 vols. Pickering & Chatto 2005–6) and editor of volume one on Gaskell's journalism. Other work includes Women and Literature in Britain 1800–1900 (Cambridge 2001) and the editorship of The Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature vol. 4 (1999). She is currently editing The Cambridge Companion to English Literature 1830–1914. She was the founding President of The British Association for Victorian Studies and is a member of the advisory board of Literature Compass.
